Das von der Asian Animal Foundation (AAF) errichtete Bärenzentrum wurde am 07.04.08 unter Beteiligung zahlreicher Vertreter aus Politik und Behörden, Botschaftsvertretern und Mitarbeitern lokaler und internationaler Hilfsorganisationen eröffnet. Da die von BORDA geplannte und als Pilotanlage umgesetzte Abwasserbehandlungsanlage einen wesentlichen Teil der Bärenanlage darstellt, wurde daher parallel die Einweihung der nunmehr zweiten DEWATS-Anlage in Vietnam durch BORDA organisiert.

On 15^th August 2007, BORDA, EAST Vietnam (Water Agriculture and Health in Tropical Area) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) on the implementation of a Pilot Demonstration, one of the activities in the project “Developing Appropriate Sanitation Solutions for Peri-Urban areas in Vietnam”.

A wastewater treatment plant for a Bear Rescue Centre is currently under construction at the Tam Dao National Park, Vinh Phuc Province, close to Hanoi. The DEWATS plant, planned for the Asia Animal Foundation, stands out due to its two large-scale biogas digesters and is designed for achieving the highest Vietnamese effluent standards. While heavy rains had delayed construction work after the groundbreaking on 20^th September, the system now is expected to start operating by mid of December.

The present Strategy is the binding guideline for the formulation of German development cooperation (DC) in the water sector. It also explains the importance of the water sector for development cooperation. The Sector Strategy serves as the basis and provides a set of criteria for sector dialogue with partners and other donors, for the BMZ‘s priority area strategy papers, for the planning and implementation of German development projects, and as a benchmark for the assessment of European and multilateral development cooperation in the water sector.
